Nikon Total Station

Three Dimensional “point-cloud” Scanning

ARAI utilizes the latest in survey techniques to measure, record and preserve evidence. These techniques include laser surveying with a Nikon Total Station and three dimensional “point-cloud” scanning. In automobile accidents the Total Station surveying techniques can be used to record tire impressions and other information which can then be overlayed onto aerial images. The following image shows surveyed tire impressions on an aerial of the accident location on an interstate.

The Total Station surveying can also be used to measure and show deflections of building and retaining wall structures. The image map below shows the deflections of a very large wall section after a structural failure.
